LOOP technology is a vehicle detection and classification technology that works by analyzing magnetic field disturbances generated by an inductive loop system installed in the pavement. The technology, developed by Neurosoft, identifies unique patterns and features that are specific to particular types of vehicles through analysis of the multi-channel signal from the loops. Based on this, it assigns vehicles to appropriate categories such as cars, trucks, tractors, buses or motorcycles. In addition, it determines such vehicle characteristics as speed, direction of travel and the lane in which the vehicle is traveling.
