Safety at railway crossings

Event

The 11th edition of the industry conference “Railway-Road Crossings 2025” was held in Warsaw, bringing together representatives of railway and road infrastructure managers, companies providing solutions for the railway sector, as well as institutions, organizations, and media engaged in promoting railway-road traffic safety. Neurosoft took an active part in the event – both as a sponsor and as a panel expert in a debate on monitoring user behavior at level crossings.

The issue of safety at railway-road crossings is becoming an increasingly significant challenge, especially for railway infrastructure managers, including PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe. This is due to the relatively high number of accidents at crossings, which places Poland at the bottom of European rankings. During the conference it was emphasized that every incident at a crossing generates very high costs – not only those related to infrastructure damage at the accident site, but also those resulting from train delays or damage to the rolling stock. It is also worth noting that the perpetrators of accidents at crossings are mainly drivers (as many as 99% of cases), which means that influencing the behavior of this group of users is of key importance.

As part of the conference, Neurosoft presented two safety-enhancing solutions: “NeuroCar – Railway” and “NeuroCar – Red Light”. The first system works preventively by informing drivers when it is not possible to leave the crossing (via an additional signal before the crossing). The second system automatically detects red-light violations, records digital evidence of the offense, and enables the issuance of a fine. Both solutions are already in practical use, and their effectiveness was discussed, among others, during a debate on monitoring user behavior at level crossings, moderated by Łukasz Zboralski, editor-in-chief of the portal brd24.pl.

The conference was organized by the “Pro Kolej” Foundation. For more information please visit the organizer’s website: https://kolej365.pl/przejazdy2025/
